How to Track RAM Auction Prices per GB

Memory is bought and sold by the lot and valued by the gigabyte, and those two facts are what make a memory lot hard to price by eye. The Memory Tracker watches RAM lots as they come up and close, converts what they realised into a price per gigabyte, and charts it by memory type over time. It is a reference dashboard, not a bidding tool: you read it, you do not drive it.

Before you start

Memory Tracker opens inside the ITAD Tools dashboard and needs a free account; it is part of the starter toolset. There is nothing to configure and nothing to submit — no lot to add, no alert to set, no scan to trigger. What you should bring is the memory you are actually valuing, described the way the dashboard describes it: which of laptop, desktop or server memory it is, and how many gigabytes are in front of you in total.

Reading the tracker step by step

  1. Open Memory Tracker from the dashboard. It loads its own view inside the page; the Refresh button reloads it without reloading the whole dashboard.
  2. Read the four counters first. They tell you how much the tracker has seen in total, how much has closed, how much is being watched right now, and how many memory items have been catalogued.
  3. Read the three price-per-gigabyte cards, split into laptop, desktop and server memory. Check whether they carry a figure at all before reading anything into them.
  4. Use the Price Trends chart to see direction rather than a single number, narrowing it by memory type, by speed, and by time window.
  5. Scan the Recent Auctions table for the individual lots, and read the status column before the price column.
  6. Check System Status for when the data was last updated and what is scheduled next, so you know how fresh what you just read actually is.

Reading the results

  • Total Auctions — every lot the tracker has ever seen, in any state. It measures coverage, not activity.
  • Completed — lots that closed with a final bid recorded. This is the only pool that can produce a price, so it is the counter that matters.
  • Monitoring — lots currently open and being watched for a closing bid.
  • Memory Items — individual modules catalogued out of those lots, which is why it is far larger than the lot count.
  • Laptop, Desktop and Server cards — a capacity-weighted price per gigabyte for each family, drawn from recorded prices inside a recent window. Weighted by capacity means a large lot influences the figure more than a small one.
  • No Data — a card showing this has no closing prices inside its window. It means no recent sales to average, not a price of zero, and not a broken dashboard.
  • All Memory Types (Detailed) — the same per-gigabyte basis shown as one badge per memory type rather than rolled up into the three family cards, so a specific module class can be read on its own. It falls back to a single No Data badge when nothing has closed inside the window.
  • Price Trends — the same per-gigabyte basis plotted over your chosen window, filterable by memory type and by speed.
  • Recent Auctions — one row per lot: a neutral lot label, its status, end time, item count, total gigabytes, final bid and price per gigabyte. The last two are populated only once a lot has closed.
  • Status — discovered means the lot has been seen but its contents have not been read yet; parsed means its memory items have been read but it has no price yet; monitoring means it is open and being watched; completed means it closed with a bid captured; failed means it could not be processed.
  • System Status and Recent Errors — when the data was last refreshed, what collection step runs next, and a list of recent collection failures, each with a control to dismiss it.

Lot titles are deliberately generic, carrying only the memory type and total capacity. The dashboard is a price reference and does not name the venue a lot came from.

Making the call

Compare on price per gigabyte and nothing else. A lot's headline capacity describes how much memory is in the box, not what it is worth, and the trade convention is to reduce every candidate to the same per-gigabyte basis before any of them are compared. A large lot that looks expensive is often the cheaper buy once divided through.

Never compare across the three cards. Laptop, desktop and server memory are separate markets with separate buyers, and a figure from one says nothing useful about another. Read the card that matches what you are holding, then read the trend line under the same filter to see which way that particular market is moving — direction over weeks is a better guide to whether to buy now than any single closing price.

Where a card carries no figure, do not substitute one from a neighbouring card or from an older window. Absent data is an honest answer, and the right response is to widen the trend window, look at the individual closed lots, or price the memory another way — not to reason from a number that describes different hardware.

When something looks wrong

  • Every price card says No Data. This is the state the dashboard is in whenever nothing has closed with a recorded final bid inside the summary window. The auction table below can keep filling with newly discovered lots the whole time, because discovery and bid capture are different things.
  • The auction table is full but the price columns are empty. Look at the status column. A lot at discovered or at parsed has no price yet by definition; only a completed lot carries a final bid and a price per gigabyte.
  • The trend chart is flat or blank. A narrow filter can leave almost nothing to plot — a single memory type at a single speed over a short window frequently has no closed lots at all. Widen the window, or set the type and speed filters back to everything.
  • I cannot find where to set a price alert. There is no alert configuration anywhere in the tool. Nothing on the page feeds data in either — the controls are the three trend filters, refresh, and dismissing a logged error.
  • Errors are listed at the bottom of the page. Those are collection failures logged by the tracker, kept visible rather than hidden so you can judge how complete the data is. Recent entries there are a reason to treat the newest figures with caution.

Frequently asked questions

Why do the per GB cards say No Data?

Because a price per GB can only be computed from an auction that has closed with a recorded final bid, and the cards summarise only a recent window. If nothing has closed inside that window every card reads No Data, even while the auction table below keeps filling with newly discovered lots. It means no recent closing prices, not a price of zero.

What do the auction statuses mean?

Discovered means the lot has been seen but its contents have not been read yet. Parsed means its memory items have been read but it still has no price. Monitoring means it is open and being watched for a closing bid. Completed means it closed and a final bid was captured, which is the only status that yields a dollar-per-GB figure. Failed means the lot could not be processed.

Why are the auction titles generic?

Titles are deliberately rewritten to a neutral lot label carrying only the memory type and total capacity. The dashboard is a price reference, not a shopping list, and it does not identify the venue a lot came from.

Can I set a price alert or add an auction myself?

No. Nothing on the page feeds data in: your controls are the three trend-chart filters, the refresh button, and a button to dismiss a logged collection error. There is no alert configuration, no way to submit a lot, and no way to start a scan from the page.
